Happy belated Canada Day 🇨🇦 and Happy Independence Day 🇺🇸 to my North American friends on this side of the pond! I hope your holidays were excellent. We celebrated on the 4th hosting a small group of family and friends. Dan and I watched the parade of ships in the morning. Sail4th 250 was just spectacular. I remember the parade for our 200th birthday, seeing it on TV. Those ships from so many different countries are just magnificent, and all coming together for a beautiful celebration. I loved seeing so much pride in our country this week. People were wearing red, white and blue all week long, flags were flying. Yes, we have some work to do, but the goal is to keep working at it, and I have faith that we will.
Our back patio has been a construction zone this week, as we finally found a patio cover that works and Dan has been assembling it, with just a tad bit of help from me. It’s almost finished and then we’ll have some nice shade to enjoy coffee in the morning and G&Ts at night:)
Some other favorite things:
❤ Emily and I have come up with the perfect iced coffee recipe. Bottled iced coffee, oat milk and a dash of vanilla syrup. Lots of ice, served with a straw.
❤ Another afternoon at the local pool with the grandkids.
❤ My brother came over with a box of old family photographs for me to go through. He lives in the house that we grew up in, and therefore inherited a lot of family stuff that was stored in the basement including boxes and boxes of pictures. It seems that a lot of people I know are dealing with sorting through photographs and memorabilia these days. Does anybody else remember the days of double and even triple prints when getting film developed? My mom and I used to share prints all of the time, so much of what he’s giving me I already have. Anyway, it was fun to go through the box and I was able to weed through most of it and just keep a few gems.
❤I love discussing books with my stepmom, Carol. She is a voracious reader and can recollect titles and authors much more readily than I can.
❤A new patio table. It has a metal surface with a decorative design cut into the top. Brooklynn admired how pretty it is. But then she ran her hands over the rough top and with great concern commented, “It’s not going to be very good for coloring.” 😟
I enjoyed this post and reading about your holiday weekend and what you have been up. I need to go through and sort out pictures now that I am retired. That will be quite a process, I'm afraid. I hope you have a great week and enjoy the rest of July! See you again soon!
