Dry Falls, Coulee, Washington
On the menu: Salmon, roasted potatoes, steamed broccoli
Trip notes: This morning, we crossed the Snake River from Lewiston, Idaho, into Clarkston, Washington. I couldn’t help but think about the pioneer women I’ve been reading about, and what a river crossing meant for their journeys. We accomplished in less than a minute what took them an entire day to do.
We traveled north through the eastern part of Washington. It’s so beautiful this time of year with rolling hills of golden wheat and areas of dark volcanic rock (basalt) that are strewn throughout the landscape. In the seemingly endless prairie, we came upon Palouse Falls, formed by massive Ice Age floods thousands of years ago. The views from the top of the canyon were stunning.
We’re settled in this evening in a quiet campground, with just a few other campers. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a flock of California quail. A new species for my Life List!
