A Hodgepodge on Wednesday

My blogging friend Wendy participates in Wednesday Hodgepodge each week, and I've often thought it would be fun to join in. So here I go. Joyce is our hostess and she comes up with some pretty good questions each week. Thank you, Joyce!

1. What's your favorite room in your house and why?

My favorite room is my den. There are several bookcases that hold my books, photos of my favorite people and a few mementos. There's a comfy chair with an ottoman for reading. It also has one of the larger windows in our house with a view of a small rose garden with a birdbath and feeder. There is lots of natural light and the room is just off the living room and kitchen, so I don't feel isolated. My husband even bought me a sign that says, This is my happy place. He gets me;)

2. What's something that will instantly annoy you?

People that drive too slow. And people that drive too fast. Everyone should go the same speed as me, haha!

3. May 28th is National Hamburger Day . . . will you celebrate? How do you like yours? If you're not cooking at home, is there a favorite place you like to go for a burger? Did you ever work in a fast food restaurant?

I didn't know that today is National Hamburger Day, and I've already planned my dinner menu for tonight. So, no, I won't be celebrating tonight. But I do love hamburgers, and we will be having them often this summer. I like them grilled with lots of cheese. I also like Swiss cheese and mushrooms. Or avocado and tomato and lettuce. I like to try them different ways. I never worked in a fast food restaurant, but I worked at an ice cream shop that sold sandwiches. I was 14, and it was my first real job.

4. What are three scents you like?

💗I love Crabtree and Evelyn's lavender soap. It reminds me of the soap my grandma had in her bathroom. I remember washing my hands at the pedestal sink in the little bathroom at the top of her stairs. There was a window with white lace curtains that overlooked her backyard.
💗Freshly mown grass. It smells of summer.
💗When my husband wears a -- clean, lol -- cotton tee shirt. I love hugging him and breathing in the scent.

5. What do you miss most about being a kid?

Having a mom to take care of me. Somedays, I still really need a mom.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

I was in my front yard this morning when a women walked by with her grandchildren -- a baby that she carried and a little girl on her bike who must have been about four years old. The grandma told me how they admire our home and call it "the house with the red road" because the sidewalk leading to the front door is a reddish-hued concrete. I can see how it would seem like a road to one so little, riding her bike. I thought it was rather sweet.

Happy Wednesday, everyone.

  1. I like your bookcases! Nice that we both like lavender too. I like mowed grass too. It reminds me of my grandpa Daivd. When I first moved into our small home, I had a room for crafting. Then my son and his wife needed a place to live for a year. Then my grandson asked if he could have the room which worked out because Covid had hit and the grands stayed with us since our daughter was working. He still uses that room 4 days a week. So I moved my desk and some craft things in the bedroom under the big window. Hopefully I will get the room back after he goes to college in a year. So I can craft or lay down and read. Hubby prefers to be in the family room watching tv while I craft or work on my Bible journaling.

  2. That memory of your grandmas soap and washing your hands in her bathroom was so precious. It makes me really think about what my grandkids are storing away in their memory banks of the time we spend together in my house. Thanks for joining in and welcome to the Hodgepodge!

  3. Your den looks like a very inviting and comfortable place - a happy place indeed. It's so interesting the memories that scents can bring to mind. Loved your memory of washing your hands at your grandma's. Seems like quite a few of us are annoyed by bad drivers! Hope you're having a great week!

That's so sweet of the grandma to tell you that about the "red road". so cute!!
I often have road rage so I can understand your answer to that! :)
I love the scent of fresh mown grass as well but I'm allergic to lavender. However, Crabtree and evelyn used to have a lilac scent that i just adored! it was my fave during my college years and yup....now i'm allergic to lilacs!!

  6. Great to see you here Karen. Funny how scents can bring back memories. Yes there are days when I still wish I was a daughter rather than a Mum and Grandmother. I love your den.
